FOXTROTTER CLINIC AT MILLER RANCH

Seven riders and approximately 13 auditors gathered at Miller Ranch Jan 20-21 for a clinic featuring trainer Simone Guenther and Lothar Rowe.  Miller Ranch is a beautiful facility, perfect for a clinic.  The amenities include a wonderful covered arena with a covered area for spectators.  Even the round pen is covered which we all appreciated.  The weather was cool with a little rain, so we all enjoyed the covered areas.  Simone and Lothar started off helping the riders determine what gait their horses are doing.  Then we learned what can be done for horses who pace or cross canter.  Wow, what a difference!  This was followed by a discussion on bits and were encouraged to try our horses without a bit to see how they travel naturally.  Simone helped teach our horses the side pass and to move away from pressure.  By this time we were all cold and hungry to we retreated into the reception area where delicious pizza and soft drinks was being served.  Afterwards we went out to the round pen where Simone gave us more hands on lessons on working our horses from the ground as well as in the saddle. Lothar stressed the importance of teaching the “whoa” to our horses.  I agree this is probably the most important command to teach your horse.  Everyone agreed this clinic was very productive for both horses and riders. If you missed this clinic, hopefully you can participate in the fall clinic.  Keep posted for information on the fall clinic. Details will be posted on our website and newsletter.
