MAY 28 - 30: Memorial Day Ride
Report Combined Lone Ranger/AFTA Ride
As usual, this was one of the largest fun rides of the year. We had a great turn-out since it was a combined ride with the Lone Rangers and the Arizona Fox Trotters Association. We had a total of 25 campers. Some chose to ride alone while the others joined the rides Randy led. Randy's hard work really paid off. It was a great camping area with lots of great trails, picking up the Arizona Trail a few times. On Saturday, we rode to Gooseberry Springs for lunch. It was a nice cool day and all the stock tanks had water for the horses. We returned to camp and readied for the Saturday Nite Potluck as the skies were threatening rain. There was so much food and nobody went away hungry! Just as the pies were finished off, the rain came. And came. Of course we can't complain as we still need all the rain we can get in Arizona. That kinda put a damper on our evening campfire! On Sunday we were off on a "short" ride that turned out to be a 5 hour ride. Not a complaint was heard tho as it was such a beautiful ride. We returned to camp and had a great "Happy Hour" with tons of snackies. This group sure enjoys eating and telling stories! It was a little windy in the afternoon, but it let up allowing us to have a great campfire. Monday was pretty windy. All the awings were tied up securely. Some of our more adventurous riders braved the wind and had a beautiful ride to Snell Springs. They even got to see elk and turkeys along the way. They also found a new campsite for a future ride. Our thanks go out to Randy Ware for working so hard to plan this ride for us. Great Job, Randy! I would also like to thank Pat Frame for being there as our "camp host". What a great gal! She hangs out in camp and watches over everything while we're out riding. She's usually there to help newcomers into camp find a campsite. Need a dog turned out while you're gone riding? Again, she's always glad to help. Our clubs couldn't exist if we didn't have people like Pat and Randy to make it a success. We always need more people to step up to the plate and help out. So if you can lead or plan a ride, be a board member, or simple help out on rides, we could really use the help! |
