PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
by Sam Pallin, MD
In August the heat was getting old in the Valley. In
September it was obnoxious. Now it is finally cooling off.
It’s October at last. Your Board has been hard at work
developing a schedule of events, nominating a slate of Board members,
and meeting with the membership. We had a very nice membership
dinner meeting at Bill Johnson’s Big Apple September 24th.
There was an opportunity to mix it up, and we met many new
members. We are looking forward to monthly rides, a cow clinic,
and of course, the 2006 National Trail Ride. Don’t miss this
one. It’s in Wickenberg this year. We are camping at the Rodeo
Grounds. It is a beautiful facility. The trails in the
foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains are legendary. We expect the
ride to fill up early. The Mid-westerners are already talking
about it.
Now just a word of appreciation: after five years and thousands of
emails I am retiring as your President. As an officer of the
young AFTA. I was variously helpful, controversial, obstinate,
and fortunate. Helpful I hope, controversial when I pursued
unpopular Board decisions, obstinate in favor of the best course of
action for our organization, and fortunate to have a supportive Board
of Directors and an active cohesive membership. It has been easy
to share the love for our breed, and rewarding to see AFTA grow into
the established and financially secure organization we have
today. During my tenure the challenge was survival and
growth. For your new officers the challenge is the future of the
Breed in Arizona. It will be a big job, one which good people
will do well, and I trust you will give them your unqualified
support. I will hang around and help where I can.
Thank you, each and every one!
